About a...Food Blog

My roommates and I were always talking about making a quiche, so when I got the task to write about a food blog, I started looking for a recipe. We all love broccoli so we decided to make a broccoli-quiche. I found a recipe on http://5elementfood.blogspot.co.at. According to the recipe you need:

Ham and Broccoli Quiche
1 prebaked pie shell (only lightly browned)
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups whole milk (or cream, or half and half or lowfat or combination)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon white pepper

1 cup chopped ham
1/2 red onion, sauteed in 1 Tablespoon butter until lightly carmelized
1 cup broccoli florets, cut up and lightly steamed

We decided to change the recipe a little. Instead of ham we used ground meat. We didn’t have a red onion so we used a white one. We used a lot more broccoli and because we were over-motivated we had the great idea to make the pie crust ourselves, which was not the best idea because the texture was ”interesting” and we ended up eating the quiche without crust. Anyway for the crust we used butter, flour, water and salt.

Then we followed the recipe again and mixed the milk, cream, eggs, salt, pepper and some herbs together. We steamed the broccoli, fried the meat and mixed everything together with the onions. We put the crust in the baking dish and put the meat-broccoli mix, some cheese and, like the cherry on the cake, some pine nuts, on top. According to the recipe it has to bake for about 40 minutes.

All in all we had a great evening a lot of fun and the quiche (unfortunately without crust) was very delicious. We will definitely try this recipe again!
